| 요약 | 로시니의 마지막 오페라 <윌리엄 텔>은 공연시간만 4시간이 소요되는 이탈리아 오페라 역사상 가장 거대한 작품이다. 원래 파리 청중을 위해 작곡되었으나 지금은 이탈리아어로 번역된 판본이 일반적이다. 아들 머리 위의 사과를 활로 쏴 떨어뜨린 궁수의 유명한 이야기이지만, 워낙 대작인데다가 남자 주인공 아르놀도가 테너에게 치명적인 손상을 초래할 수 있는 어려운 역이라고 해서 자주 무대에 올릴 수 없었다. 루치아노 파바로티조차 녹음만 했고 실연으로는 한번도 아르놀도를 노래하지 못했다. 파바로티가 주저한 이 역을 미국의 초인적 테너 크리스 메리트가 도전한다. 타이틀 롤 (윌리엄 텔)은 바리톤 조르지오 잔카나로가 맡아 스위스 지도자로서의 권위와 부성을 동시에 드러낸다. 알프스의 자연 풍광을 거대한 백스크린에 동영상으로 비춰낸 루카 론코니의 독특한 연출은 물론이고 3막의 발레 장면에 이탈리아의 국보급 발레리나 카를라 프라치가 특별 출연한 것도 돋보이는 영상물임. |
