요약	베를리오즈가 18년에 걸쳐 완성한 이 작품은 그의 대표적인 성악 작품으로 인정받고 있지만 곡의 규모와 연주의 어려움 때문에 그다지 무대에는 자주 올려지지 않았었다. 하지만 이번 DVD의 발매로 우리는 오페라와 오라토리오를 섞어놓은 것 같이 극적 성격이 강한 작품 특유의 분위기를 감상할 수 있게 되었다. 원통형의 거대한 멀리 스크린을 비롯한 짤쯔부르크 축제극장의 넓은 무대 위에서 매우 현대적인 감각으로 연출된 다이나믹한 무대의 전경이 인상적인 이번 공연은 1998년 8월 25일 짤쯔부르크 페스티벌에서 프랑크푸르트 오페라의 음악감독 캄브렐링이 지휘하는 베를린 슈타츠카펠레 오케스트라에 의해 연주된 것이다. 베셀리나 카사노바, 윌라드 화이트 등 신선미와 관록이 어우러진 화려한 캐스팅도 돋보임.
